Arts, Culture, and Recreation

Kamloops has quality of life and public infrastructure and private recreation facilities second to none. Our Culture Strategic Plan looks at how Kamloops residents can continue to contribute to the quality of life and encouraging public involvement in arts, culture and heritage initiatives.

The City of Kamloops provides many recreational activites for persons of all ages. Click here to find out more.

Amenities include: The Interior Savings Centre, a sports coliseum (6,400 seating capacity), six arenas and three indoor pools - Click here for a complete listing of community leisure sports facilities. These facilities combined with the mild Kamloops climate and the close proximity to the desert plateaus, lush river valleys and snow capped mountains, give local residents unlimited recreation opportunities - skiing at  Sun Peaks or Harper Mountain, golf at various locations, hiking, tennis, swimming, boating, Mountain Bikingbiking, the list goes on.

The Kamloops Art Gallery and Kamloops Museum are both located downtown and offer ever-changing shows and exhibitions.  The Kamloops Symphony Orchestra and the Western Canada Theatre perform regularly and there is always something going on at Interior Savings Centre, be it a Blazers Game (our local Western Hockey League team) or a rock concert.  Each night in July and August hundreds gather in Riverside Park to listen to Music in the Park, a FREE nightly music concert.  Music entertainment is by local, national, and international musicians, weather permitting.  The Kamloops Heritage Railway offers an 11km railtour aboard the Spirit of Kamloops on the CN Okanagan Subdivision.

The City of Kamloops municipal parks system is comprised of 82 parks with a total area of 3,336 ac (1350 ha).  Of this total, 556 ac (229 ha) are developed parks and 2,770 ac (1,121 ha) are open space.  The parks are wonderful places to walk, jog, cycle, roller blade or simply sit and relax. The BC Wildlife Park, located in Kamloops, is nationally recognized for excellence in its efforts to conserve and preserve the environment.

The many provincial parks in the Kamloops Region each offer their own unique opportunities for outdoor recreation activities.
