This summer marks the sixth annual exhibition of work by graduating students from Thompson Rivers University. Selected by Kamloops Art Gallery Assistant Curator Craig Willms, the works in Curator’s Choice highlight emerging talent from TRU’s Bachelor of Fine Arts 2010 graduating class. Students at TRU graduate with a wide variety of specialties, including ceramics, printmaking, sculpture, painting, photography and installation. This year’s exhibition features installations by Kate Garrett-Petts and Melanie Perreault.

The Dinner Theatre shows are held now through October 15 at the Kamloops Convention Centre at the Kamloops Towne Lodge. This play is the story of a young Canadian songwriter journeying across Canada on a train, searching for inspiration to write an epic song. The BC Wildlife Park is having a Fundraising Dinner at the Park to raise funds for a much needed new Animal Health and Rehab Center on September 11, 2010. Adams River Salmon Run

In October of 2010, 15 million Fraser River sockeye salmon will return home to British Columbia after spending two years out in the Pacific Ocean. The Adams River is located between the Adams Lake and Shuswap Lakes, about a 40 minute drive from Kamloops. The crimson salmon are easily seen in the river at the Roderick Haig-Brown Provincial Park where viewing platforms and walking paths have been established for many visitors to enjoy this natural attraction.

On a dark and stormy Halloween night in 1915, a train carrying 44 passengers and crew left Kamloops Junction destined for the town of Blue River. The train disappeared into a thick fog while passing through Wolfenden and never reappeared. Many have searched, but none have been able to find any trace of the train, the crew, or the passengers... Since the restoration of the 2141 steam locomotive, strange events have taken place around the time of Halloween. Have the spirits been resurrected? Since the restoration of the 2141 steam locomotive, strange events have taken place around the time of Halloween. Have the spirits been resurrected? At Tranquille, where the Thompson River flows into Kamloops Lake, Kelly will lead you into an ethereal world of captivating ice flows and warm winter light. You will learn how to control exposures using filters, how to slow water and capture color, and how to use the bold and imposing ice flows in your composition for a dramatic touch. This is a half-day workshop starting at 6:00am and meeting at Old Tranquille (the main gate to Kamloops Lake). Cost $75.00. Maximum 8 participants.
